ISRAEL-HEZBOLLAH WAR

  1. Israeli Strikes Destroy Six Buildings, Afif Assassination Unconfirmed 

Israel’s Air Force launched 17 strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Among the strikes was a reported attempt to target Hezbollah’s media official, Mohammad Afif, though Hezbollah denied his death. Simultaneously, airstrikes hit Tyre, causing thousands to flee after evacuation warnings. Israeli forces also struck Hezbollah weapons caches and killed three regional commanders. Hezbollah retaliated with rocket volleys targeting central and northern Israel, with missiles intercepted near Tel Aviv. In another attack on the Nahla-Baalbek road, 24 people were injured, as confirmed by the Health Ministry. Lebanese sources say that more than 100 Israeli strikes were launched on Lebanon raising the death toll to 2574 and more than 12,000 injured since October 1. Israel announced eliminating 70 Hezbollah members including three leaders, in Jibchit, Qana, and Joya, within 48 hours.

These incidents are part of ongoing cross-border hostilities, raising security concerns in northern Israel.

  1. IDF Intercepts Two Missiles from Lebanon Targeting Northern Israel

The IDF intercepted two missiles fired from Lebanon toward Beit She’an, northern Israel. Hezbollah’s rocket barrage injured a man in Nahariya, with shrapnel hitting his head. It’s unclear if the injury resulted from a direct hit or an interception. The IDF confirmed 25 rockets were launched, most of which were intercepted by air defenses.

  1. Austin: No Evidence of Hezbollah Cache Under Beirut Hospital

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that he has not seen evidence of Hezbollah hiding cash and gold under Sahel Hospital in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The Israeli military had previously accused Hezbollah of storing hundreds of millions of dollars in a bunker beneath the hospital but clarified that they would not target the facility. Lebanese MP Fadi Alama dismissed the claims as false, urging the Lebanese army to inspect the hospital. Israel’s military maintains that the bunker was ordered by the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

  1. Hezbollah Increases Drug Trafficking in Europe Due to Financial Strain

Hezbollah has ramped up drug trafficking in Europe due to financial pressure from Israeli strikes on its funding sources in Lebanon. Key revenue streams, including Al-Qard Al-Hassan and cash shipments, were disrupted. Europol and U.S. officials confirmed Hezbollah’s criminal network for drug distribution and money laundering is growing. The group collaborates with South American cartels, moving drugs through West Africa to Europe, aiming to compensate for financial losses caused by Israeli attacks and international sanctions.

  1. Multinational Forces Considered for Southern Lebanon After Ceasefire

A proposal suggests deploying multinational forces alongside the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon if a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel is reached. Israel’s intensified airstrikes since September 23 have killed 1,552 people. Currently, 9,500 UNIFIL soldiers are stationed in southern Lebanon. Discussions focus on enhancing U.N. Resolution 1701, which governs the region’s military presence. Lebanon is considering increasing its army’s forces, supported by international partners, to maintain control if peace is secured.

  1. Hassan Nasrallah’s Ring Auctioned In Iran To Aid Lebanon

Iran’s “Ofogh” network plans to auction the ring of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike last month, according to Iranian news agency IRNA. The proceeds from the auction will be directed to support the Lebanese people. Iranian MP Mojtaba Rahmandoust, who received the ring as a gift from Nasrallah in February 2014, announced that the bidding will start at 5 billion tomans, approximately  $113,000. The auction highlights Iran’s efforts to rally support for Lebanon amidst ongoing regional tensions.

  1. Israel Drops Explosive Barrels on Gaza 

Al Jazeera reported an unprecedented Israeli strikes on Gaza using Barrel Bombs, marking the first airborne use after previous ground detonations. The improvised weapons, each containing up to 300 kg of TNT, caused devastation across a 250-meter radius. Barrel bombs, infamous for their use by the Assad regime, are destructive, low-cost weapons made from metal or concrete casings. Equipped with rear fans and mechanical fuses, they are dropped from aircraft using free fall, targeting populated areas. 

  1. IDF Claims Six Al Jazeera Journalists Linked to Hamas and PIJ

The IDF claims documents found in Gaza prove six Al Jazeera journalists are operatives in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The named journalists allegedly held military roles in various battalions. Released documents include spreadsheets, training records, and salary documents as evidence. Al Jazeera denies the accusations and accuses Israel of targeting its Gaza-based staff during the conflict.

  1. Israeli Strikes Kill 42 as Forces Tighten Gaza Siege

Israeli airstrikes and artillery targeted northern and southern Gaza, including Rafah, Jabalia, and Beit Lahia. On Wednesday, 42 people were killed, with 37 deaths reported in northern Gaza as Israeli forces intensified their siege. Hospitals and refugee shelters were surrounded, and residents were ordered to evacuate south. Despite the ongoing military escalation, Israeli officials are discussing a potential 10-day ceasefire.

A Hamas delegation, led by Mousa Abu Marzouk, arrived in Moscow to meet Russian officials , discussing ways to end the Gaza war and advance Palestinian reconciliation. Russia, which has been working to promote Palestinian unity, condemned the recent assassinations of Hamas leaders and expressed concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Lebanon. The talks aim to address Israeli attacks and explore diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and ease tensions in the region.

  1. Hostage Describes Isolation, Abuse, and Brutality in Captivity

Amit Soussana endured harrowing conditions during her captivity with Hamas. Isolated from other hostages, she was kept in a small apartment, chained by her ankles and unable to move freely. She was sexually assaulted by the terrorist assigned to guard her, forced to follow his commands at gunpoint. Despite her efforts to resist, she remained powerless in the face of his abuse. After a few days, she was transferred to another location, where she suffered further brutality. In this new place, she was tortured, beaten, and humiliated, constantly fearing for her life. Soussana shared her testimony at the United Nations Security Council, where she urged immediate action to secure the release of those still held captive.

  1. Israeli Soldiers Refuse Service Without Hostage Deal

Fifteen Israeli soldiers joined 138 others refusing military service without a hostage deal. In a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu and officials, they criticized the Gaza war, claiming it endangers hostages and urged immediate action. They warned they would stop serving if no deal is made soon. The letter highlighted that Israeli military operations have killed more hostages than rescued. Since the ground offensive began last October, Israeli military casualties in Gaza have reached 353.

BRICS leaders emphasized enhancing cooperation and expanding partnerships in their summit’s final statement. They endorsed reforms to the World Trade Organization, aiming to boost its stability and inclusiveness. BRICS announced the inclusion of 10 new partner countries in its final summit statement in Kazan. He noted that over 30 nations have expressed interest in joining BRICS. Russian officials confirmed that criteria for partner states have been set, with further expansions expected. Arab analysts noted that BRICS’ final statement addressing political issues in the Middle East sends a clear message that BRICS is not solely an economic group, but is also concerned with regional developments.

  1. US-UK and Saudi-Led Joint Forces Prepare to Confront Houthis

On October 24, 2024, Sana time US and UK forces launched airstrikes on Houthi militia positions in Hodeidah, targeting sites used for attacks on international navigation. This comes after five small boats approached a commercial ship 48 nautical miles south of Aden, with one coming within 3 cables. The ship’s armed security team fired warning shots, forcing the boat to leave. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led Joint Forces on Yemen’s western coast are preparing for a decisive battle to liberate Al-Hodeidah. Reinforced with artillery and military platforms, they aim to counter the Houthis, who are using civilians as shields and advancing Iran’s agenda with underground facilities and a military base on Kamaran Island.

  1. Bezeshkian Warns Israel of “Unbelievable, Severe Response”

Iranian President Massoud Bezeshkian warned Israel of an “unbelievable, severe response” if it makes any mistake against Iran. Israeli media reports that Israel has completed military preparations for an attack on Iran. Bezeshkian condemned Western support for Israel, accusing it of fueling regional conflict. He stressed that Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon would leave Iran no option but to respond decisively.

  1. Iran To Manufacture Russian Su-30 And Su-35 Fighter Jets

Iran is preparing to locally produce Russian Su-30 and Su-35  fighter jets, according to Iranian journalist Hayal Moezzen, as reported by Turkish sources. Tehran has already secured the necessary license and is gearing up to establish a local assembly plant soon. This development is expected to significantly enhance Iran’s aviation capabilities. The plan includes the production of 48 to 72 Su-35 Flanker-E fighter jets to meet the operational needs of Iran’s air force. This step marks a pivotal move in advancing Iran’s military aviation industry.

Sources have informed Sky News Arabia that Russia will support Iran while carefully maintaining its relationship with Israel. The assistance may include intelligence on Israeli aircraft and electronic warfare measures, according to Israeli sources. However, the extent of this support remains unclear. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to confirm whether joint defense provisions exist in Russia’s strategic partnership with Iran. Despite the tensions, Russia is expected to balance its commitments to both Iran and Israel, avoiding any direct confrontation. This diplomatic approach highlights Russia’s cautious stance in the region.

  1. Iranian Currency Plummets Amid War Threats And Military Spending

The Iranian rial hit an all-time low against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday as military spending surged under the new budget law and the threat of an Israeli attack loomed. The rial, which began its decline in September, fell to 670,000 rials per dollar.  Iranian officials and state-controlled media remained silent on Wednesday about the currency’s fall. In mid-August, the exchange rate was 585,000 rials per dollar, reflecting a drop of over 10% in less than two months. This rapid depreciation further underscores the financial pressures facing Iran amidst heightened tensions.

  1. Iranian Hackers Target US Election Websites as Vote Nears

An Iranian hacking group, “Cotton Sandstorm,” linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, is targeting US election-related websites, according to a Microsoft blog. The hackers conducted reconnaissance on multiple websites, particularly in swing states, indicating preparations for potential influence operations. Cotton Sandstorm’s activity is expected to increase as the election approaches. The group previously interfered in the 2020 election through cyber-influence efforts. Iran’s UN mission denies any intention to interfere. Microsoft also noted Cotton Sandstorm’s involvement in inciting violence against US election officials after the 2020 election.

  1. IDF Downs Three Drones Targeting Eilat and Golan Heights

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced a drone attack on northern Israel. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted three drones launched from Iraq, targeting Eilat and the Golan Heights. Two drones were en route to Eilat, and the third was intercepted over Syria. Additionally, two drones from Lebanon were downed—one over Ramot Naftali and another outside Israeli airspace.

  1. Iraq Requests Emergency Arab League Meeting to Support Lebanon

Iraq has requested an emergency Arab League meeting to discuss providing aid to Lebanon regarding refugees and displaced persons crisis. Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, confirmed the request was circulated to member states for consultation. Iraq reopened its airspace after a temporary suspension caused by regional tensions, restoring full flight operations to all airports.

  1. Ankara Terrorist Attack Kills Five, Turkiye Destroys 32 Targets

A terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries’ headquarters in Ankara on October 23, 2024, killed five and injured 22, with three critically wounded. Turkish forces neutralized two attackers, including a woman, during chaotic scenes of gunfire and explosions. President Erdogan condemned the attack while attending the BRICS summit in Russia. World leaders, including from the U.S., Russia, NATO, and the EU, expressed support for Türkiye. Turkiye launched retaliatory airstrikes, destroying 32 PKK and SDF sites in Iraq and Syria. clashes between the Turkish-backed National Army and SDF forces occurred in northern Aleppo. While PKK involvement is suspected, investigations continue. 

  1. Putin and Erdoğan to Discuss Nuclear Power Plants and Gas Hub in Turkiye

An explosion was heard over Damascus early Thursday, with Syrian state media confirming one fatality and several injuries. Syrian regime media attributed the strike to Israel, with reports of two separate airstrikes. The first strike in Damascus’s Kafer Sousa targeted an unidentified individual, while the second strike in Qusayr, Homs, hit Hezbollah sites. No Assad regime positions were reported to be affected by the strikes.

  1. Houthi Leaders Enter Syria to Support Iran-Backed Forces

Around 25 Houthi leaders and experts specializing in drones and missiles have entered Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province from Iraq. They were received by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, marking a strategic move to strengthen Iran-backed forces. The Houthis are reportedly present in Syria at Al-Taybah Base east of Palmyra, Al-Diyabiyah Base, and Al-Qusayr Base in the Damascus countryside. Houthi Experts have disguised themselves as Syrian regime forces, potentially preparing for strikes against Israel. The Houthis are not combatants but technical experts aiding Iran’s regional strategy through drone and missile operations.

Russian news agency TASS announced the death of General Nikolai Mikhailenko during a special mission in Syria. The agency did not specify the mission’s time, location, or exact details, maintaining confidentiality about the Russian general’s operations. Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev confirmed through Telegram that a funeral ceremony for Mikhailenko took place in Sevastopol, Crimea. Mikhailenko was born into a military family in Chernihiv and rose through naval ranks, gaining respect for his leadership. He taught at Nakhimov Naval School and visited areas where new tactical techniques and military technologies were being tested.

Saudi Arabia’s FDI rose 13.4% in 2023 to $238.8 billion from $210.56 billion in 2022. Inflows reached $25.5 billion, down 19%, while outflows fell 44% to $2.66 billion. Net FDI was $22.9 billion. Manufacturing led with $68.97 billion (29% share). The UAE was the top investor with $40.48 billion, followed by Luxembourg and France. These investments support Saudi Arabia’s drive to diversify its economy and reduce oil reliance under Vision 2030.
