TURKIYE
- Erdogan Says Sweden Must Do Its Part on Terrorism for NATO Bid (Anadolu Agency). Erdogan told reporters, ahead of a meeting of a joint mechanism of Türkiye, Sweden, and Finland set for Wednesday in the Turkish capital Ankara, “The expectations of Sweden do not mean that we will comply with these expectations. For us to comply with these expectations, Sweden must first do its part.” Erdogan also called on Stockholm to use Swedish police to prevent PKK terrorists from operating there.
- PKK Ends its Unilateral Ceasefire with Turkiye (Elaph). - Egypt, South Korea Sign $460 Million Deal to Supply 320 Metro Carriages to Egypt (Egypt Independent). The deal will be through the concessional financing window provided by the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of the Export-Import Bank of Korea. In a statement, the International Cooperation Ministry said the deal falls within the framework of the strategic cooperation and partnership between the two countries, and after the Korean government has designated Egypt as an Official Development Assistance (ODA) priority partner for 2021-2025.
- Algerian President Begins Three-Day Visit to Russia (Al Shrooq). President Tebboune arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Tuesday evening, within the framework of a three-day state visit at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. During this visit, the Algerian president will participate in the work of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia, according to a statement by the presidency.
- Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces Assassinate the Governor of Darfur after a Television Appearance (Cairo 24). - Four SDF Members Killed by Turkish Drone Near Qamishli (Syria TV). An informed source told the Syria TV website, “A Turkish drone targeted with three Avanti missiles, a car carrying four SDF members and leaders near the village of Shorek, east of the city of Qamishli” on Wednesday…The source said there had been much secrecy about the victim’s identity. - After a Heated Session, Lebanese Parliament Fails to Elect a President (France 24). Lebanese parliamentarians were again unable, for the twelfth time, to elect a president after neither Suleiman Franjieh, the candidate supported by Hezbollah, nor former Finance Minister Jihad Azour obtained a sufficient number of votes to win in a heated parliamentary session on Wednesday…Azour received the support of 59 votes out of 128 deputies in Parliament in a preliminary vote, less than the two-thirds required to win in the first round. In contrast, Franjieh got 51 votes in the first round.
